I am writing book 2 in the Dragon Marines series. After changes, today I am at 8700 + words. I am hoping to get to 30,000 words on this one. Maybe more.
How did I start writing MM romance? I’ve read Romance since junior high. I was there at the beginning: Rosemary Rodgers, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Laurie McBain, the original Queens of Romance. I was insatiable. I read it all. Had subscriptions to Harlequin. The bookstore people knew me. I tried to write. One was a Dame Barbara Cartland clone. One was over in 15 pages. I kept reading. Then, I was looking for something new.
Paranormal came along. YES! Something I could sink my teeth into. (sorry, couldn’t help myself) Vampires, Werewolves, Gargoyles! I was happy. Once again, I read them all. I wasn’t writing at this time. Too busy trying to grow my career as a chef/cook. Bookstores started to close up. We still had Borders and Barnes & Noble. But, once again I started to look for something else. Even the vampires started to get stale.
Amazon was doing that “If you bought this, you will like this” online. It recommended “My Fair Captain” by JL Langley. I read the blurb, which I had never done before with the suggestions. ‘A space captain falls for a prince in a Regency-set planet.’ Something to that effect. I reread it. Two men? This is about two men? Wow. I decided to give it a try. What could it hurt?
I was Blown away! This was exactly what I needed. I bought all the JL Langley books I could find. Then Jet Mykles’ ‘Heaven Sent’ books. Laura Baumbach, AKM Miles, ZA Maxfield. I was hooked. After a couple of years, I felt the urge to write again. And I had to write MM Romance. And, I was lucky enough to find MLR Press and Kris Jacen. I’ll tell you about that later.
You have all my favourites in your list of first time reads. My first ever mm book was Heaven Sent. Then the Cattle Valley books. Unfortunately I haven’t a writer bone in my body! But that’s ok I’m an avid reader and supporter. I’m looking forward to book2. Just LOVE Dragons.
I enjoyed your first dragon mm book. 🙂 I’m looking forward to the second.
